Scholarships and Financial Aid

Grand Valley offers merit-based scholarships to applicants based on information provided in a student’s application package.  Following are just a few of the many scholarships available.  To search for all scholarships visit www.gvsu.edu/scholarships/

 

Award for Excellence Transfer Scholarship

Amount:  $1,500 (renewable up to a total of two years)

  • Must have only attended an accredited community college in Michigan and completed 45 college credit hours at the time of application
  • Must have a completed admission application to Grand Valley by December 31 for the following year
  • Must have earned a collegiate grade point average of 3.5 or greater
  • Renewable for one additional consecutive year (up to a total of two years).  Must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average and meet the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

 

Transfer Student Urban Schools Scholarship

Amount:  $3,000 (renewable up to a total of two years)

  • Graduated from a designated urban school (visit www.gvsu.edu/scholarships for list)
  • Must have a completed admission application to Grand Valley by December 31
  • Must have a 3.0 cumulative community college grade point average and 45 college credit hours earned
  • Renewable for one additional consecutive year (up to a total of two years).  Must maintain a 2.5 or better grade point average and meet the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

 

Transfer Student Early Awareness Scholarship Award

Amount:  $3,000 (renewable up to a total of two years)

  • Must have participated in one of the following programs:  The Detroit Compact, Wade H. McCree Jr Incentive Scholarship, Introspect Youth Services, Inc., Ada S. McKinley Community Services, Inc., Upward Bound Program (including Upward Bound Math and Science Program and Talent Search), and GEAR UP while in high school.
  • Must have a completed admission application to Grand Valley by December 31
  • Must have a 3.0 cumulative community college grade point average and 45 college credit hours earned.
  • Renewable for one additional consecutive year (up to a total of two years).  Must maintain a 2.5 or better grade point average and meet the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

 

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Amount:  up to $1,200 (renewable up to a total of two years)

  • Recognizes the outstanding members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society at Michigan community colleges
  • Must have a total cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and be a member of the PTK Honor Society
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited community college in Michigan and have earned an associate’s degree
  • Must be admitted to GVSU as a new, full-time student for fall enrollment
  • Must have a completed PTK application by March 15

 

Distinguished Community College Graduate Scholarship

Amount:  $2,000 (renewable up to a total of two years)

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited community college in Michigan and have earned an associate’s degree
  • Must have a complete admission application to Grand Valley by December 31
  • Must have cumulative college grade point average of 3.5 or higher
  • Grand Valley must be the first institution attended after the student has earned an associate’s degree
  • Must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average and meet the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress standards
  • Selection of recipients is made by the presidents of the following two year colleges:  Grand Rapids Community College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Kellogg Community College, Lake Michigan College, Lansing Community College, Montcalm Community College, Muskegon Community College, North Central Michigan College, Northwestern Michigan College, and West Shore Community College
  • Replaces other merit scholarships such as the Award for Excellence
