PIC Grants and Scholarships 

Faculty-Led Program Grants 

GVSU offers a grant to be used specifically for summer faculty-led programs.  These grants (approx: $500) are based on financial need only, academic or other criteria are not taken into consideration.  All degree-seeking students accepted into a GVSU faculty-led program are automatically considered for the grant if they have a current FAFSA on file in the Financial Aid Office.

Study Abroad Semester Grant

The purpose of this grant is to offer financial assistance to students in need of additional resources in order to participate in a semester or academic year study abroad program.  Priority will be given to students studying abroad for an academic year and participating in non-traditional study abroad locations.  Grants, in the range of $250-$1,500 per semester, will be given to full-time, degree seeking students with a minimum GPA of 2.8.

Barbara H. Padnos Scholarship 

The Barbara H. Padnos International Scholars program provides funding for students planning to spend at least two full semesters in the host country/culture, ideally a full calendar year.  The average scholarship ranges from $5,000-$15,000. Students are expected to engage in serious study for an extended period of time in an approved study abroad program and must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Mark A. Murray Scholarship

Award amount will vary from year-to-year, depending on the number and quality of applications. Awards will be at between $1,500 and $5,000 per student, and based on specific financial need and overall cost of program. Applications will be accepted until February 15 each year for programs that begin within the subsequent 12 months. A Committee, comprised from the staff of the Padnos International Center, will select the awardees each year, and will base their final decision on interviews with finalists.

Perugia Sister City

The scholarship is offered to current undergraduate college or university students who wish to study abroad at The Umbra Institute in Perugia, Italy for the fall or spring semester, or both. To qualify, students must be undergraduate college or university students and residents of Grand Rapids or Seattle, Perugia's sister cities. Students must be in good academic standing and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. The Umbra Institute will offer two partial scholarships annually (one per semester), each worth $6,500.

Sean Dykstra CEA Scholarship

In memory of former GVSU & CEA Barcelona student, Sean Dykstra, this scholarship is open to students who are committed to lifelong learning and embracing opportunities for intercultural development.  Two scholarships will be awarded annually in the amount of $500/semester.Total scholarship money available each year: $1000.  Students must have declared a major or minor in one of the following areas: African/African-American Studies, Anthropology, East Asian Studies, French , German, International Relations, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, Political Science, Russian, Spanish.
Applicants must have a 3.0 or above at the time of application.  Applicants must be applying to any of CEA's semester or academic year programs. Applicants must be a full-time, degree-seeking student at GVSU.

Automatic Scholarships 2010-2011

Automatic scholarships are just that, an opportunity for students to receive automatic funding when studying abroad at one of our partner institutions. We are pleased to announce our automatic scholarships for 2010-11. See the complete list below and apply to study abroad! The PIC resource center, located in 130 Lake Ontario Hall, has information on the above- mentioned scholarships and several others.  Also, most scholarships, not just those designated for study abroad that are awarded through GVSU's Financial Aid Office can be used toward a study abroad program.  Check out our helpful links for scholarships & grants.  

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship - $5000 per semester or academic year, for students currently receiving federal Pell Grants.

Economic Club of Grand Rapids - two scholarships of up to $2,500 each.

Rotary International Scholarship - amount varies.

Seidman College of Business Grants and Scholarships for Study Abroad - A variety of scholarships available to business related majors/minors studying abroad.
