Direct Loan Exit Counseling

If you borrowed funds from the Federal Direct Loan program and are no longer attending GVSU at least half-time you are required to complete online exit counseling provided by the federal government. This online session explains repayment options as well as deferment, forbearance and cancellation provisions. Be aware that your grace period ends and your loans go into repayment six months from the date you were last enrolled half-time. If you re-enroll at least half-time before the end of your six month grace period, you will not go into repayment but are still required to complete exit counseling.

You will need your U.S. Department of Education PIN to access exit counseling online and other important federal websites. If you do not have your PIN, request it at
www.pin.ed.gov. At the end of the session, you will be instructed to complete the Rights and Responsibilities Checklist. You must complete this checklist to satisfy Exit Counseling requirements.

To see a complete record of ALL Federal Loans you have borrowed (i.e. Perkins, Stafford and/or Direct), go to
www.nslds.ed.gov. Information about loan consolidation is also available at www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov.
