Information Every Parent Needs to Know
Grand Valley State University offers an excellent education at a reasonable cost.
  • In every year that Grand Valley has raised tuition, we have increased financial aid by at least the same amount
  • Grand Valley has been named one of the country's 100 Best College Buys for 12 years in a row
  • More than 96% of Grand Valley graduates are employed or seeking advanced degrees
We want our students to succeed and we work hard to help make that happen in the classroom, in career placement, in student life, in support services, and in our Financial Aid Office.

Even though Grand Valley believes that the responsibility of financing a college education rests with students and their families, large amounts of financial aid are available. It is important that you become familiar with the types of financial aid available, the deadlines for application for that aid, and other information about financial aid at Grand Valley by reviewing this Web site or contacting our office with specific questions or concerns.

As a parent there are many options you have to assist your student in paying the bill.  The first is the Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan.  This loan has a fixed interest rate of 7.9% with a 2.5% processing fee.  Additional information on this loan is available here.  To learn how to apply for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan, click here.

The second option is an alternative loan.  The alternative loans have variable interest rates and may or may not charge a processing fee.  Typically the student is the primary borrower with you acting as a cosigner.
