Deadlines for Current Students

Make sure you learn the steps you must take to successfully apply for financial aid and know the important deadlines and details for each step.

December:
     Find your PIN You and your parent(s) (if you are considered dependent) will refile 
     your FAFSA after January 1st.

     Research scholarships.  If you have a Grand Valley academic scholarship make
     sure you will meet the minimum GPA and  credit completion necessary for renewal
     at the end of  Winter  semester.  Utilize the GVSU Scholarship Search tool to find 
     scholarships.  Don't forget  to take advantage of the online search databases.

January:
You must refile your FAFSA each year to be considered for financial aid.

     FAFSA available online.  Make sure to list Grand Valley's school code (002268) on
     your application. 

     Stay organized!  Make a folder to keep all financial aid related information in one
     place.

February:
     Student Aid Report (SAR) is sent to you via email or U.S. mail if you have filed your
     FAFSA.  Make sure you verify your information and make any corrections necessary. 
     If you find any errors you can fix them online through FAFSA

     GVSU scholarships typically have a February or March deadline.  Be sure that you
     meet application deadlines. 

March:
     March 1: FAFSA priority deadline.  If you file after March 1, Grand Valley cannot
    guarantee that you will be considered for all types of need-based aid.

    March 1:  Scholarship recipients:  Be sure you are aware of your scholarship's
    renewability criteria for the following academic year. 

     Spring/Summer application online.  If you want to take classes in the
     spring/summer you must file the Spring/Summer application.  Additional
     information about spring/summer aid is on this Web site. 

April:
     Correct your FAFSA.  After you file your federal taxes be sure the information
     matches your FAFSA.

    Watch for follow up requests.  Sometimes federal rules require our office to verify
    information listed on the FAFSA.  We will always mail this information to your
    permanent address.  Respond promptly to any requests.

May:
     Award notifications sent towards the end of May.  If your FAFSA is complete and
     there aren't any outstanding financial aid requests, your award notification will be
     mailed to your permanent address.  Remember, your award is based on
     full time enrollment.

     Respond to your award on the My Banner system.  Once you have reviewed and
     understand what you are being offered, you must accept your award online.  Complete
     directions can be found here.

July:
    Student ebills sent.  Your financial aid will show as either a credit or authorized. 
    Both are acceptable and mean you have done everything you need to do.  If your aid
    is not showing,  be sure to contact our office to fix the problem. 

August:
     The Fall bill is due.  You would have been sent an email from the
     Student Accounts Office in July.  If you owe any money it MUST be paid by 5 p.m. on
     the due date.  If it is not paid your classes will be cancelled.

November
   
November 1:  Scholarship recipients:  Be sure you are aware of your scholarship's
    renewability criteria for the following academic year.
