Rocket Stove Workshop with Deanne Bednar of The Strawbale Studio. LIB 100 APPROVED!
Date and TimeMonday, March 20, 2017
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
- Luce St. Farm
This unique and practical workshop focuses on creating useful heat efficiently from local materials. Special guest Deanne Bednar of The Strawbale Studio in Oxford, MI will lead the workshop, teaching students about rocket stoves and providing guidance through the construction of a rocket stove on GVSU's Sustainable Agriculture Project (SAP) Luce St. farm site.
Upon completion of the event, participants will gain heightened awareness of the impacts their energy choices make across an array of contexts: farmers, their community, their family, themselves, developing nations, and/or the environment. Rocket stoves have been used as a heat and cooking source by many cultures pre-dating historical documentation; as such, this workshop is a chance to explore traditional human culture and technologies.Participants will also gain appreciation for and awareness of producing sustainable, efficient heat energy.
The rocket stove will be used both as a heat source and for cooking meals from fresh produce grown on the SAP farm.
