Sue C. Carnell
Wayne 

Sue Carnell was appointed to the Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees in 2009. She is the former deputy superintendent of Detroit Public Schools and has also served as an education policy advisor to Governor Granholm. Carnell received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Dorothy A. Johnson
Grand Haven

Dorothy Johnson began her tenure on the Grand Valley State University Board in 1995. She was reappointed to the Board for a second eight year term in 2003. Johnson currently serves on the Finance and Audit Committee. Johnson is President of the Ahlburg Company. She is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and holds a certificate from the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in business administration.

Noreen K. Myers, Vice Chair
Lowell

Noreen Myers was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2005. Myers currently serves as the Board’s Vice Chair and also serves as Chair of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee. Myers is a private practice attorney specializing in employment law and workers compensation.  She is a Grand Valley State University alumnae.  She also holds a J.D. from Thomas Cooley Law School.

Shelley E. Padnos
Fennville

Shelley Padnos was appointed to the GVSU Board of Trustees in 2007.  She serves on the Finance and Audit Committee. Padnos is Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Louis Padnos Iron and Metal Company.  Padnos holds a BA degree from Michigan State University, master's degree in taxation from Grand Valley State University and a J.D. from Thomas Cooley Law School.

Lucille S. Taylor
Laingsburg

 

Lucille Taylor was appointed to the Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees in 2003.  She serves on the Academic and Student Affairs Committee.  Taylor has a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a J.D. from George Washington Law School.

Michael D. Thomas
Freeland

Michael Thomas was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Grand Valley State University in 2007. 
He serves on the Academic and Student Affairs Committee. Thomas is Prosecuting Attorney for Saginaw County.  Thomas is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Rutgers University School of Law.

David L. Way
DeWitt 

David Way was appointed to the Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees in 2009. He is a contract negotiator with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 951 in Grand Rapids. Previously Way was responsible for logistics and distribution in the retail industry. Way attended Grand Valley State University and Lansing Community College.

Kate Pew Wolters, Chair
Grand Rapids

 

Kate Pew Wolters was appointed to the Board of Trustees at GVSU in 2005. She currently serves as the Board's Chair and also serves as Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.  Wolters is President of the Kate and Richard Wolters Foundation and Chair of the Steelcase Foundation.  She holds a master's degree in social work from Michigan State University and a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Aquinas College.
